PALM SUNDAY
This is it! It is Palm Sunday and we are embarking into Holy Week. This is the time when we can most closely walk through the last days of Jesus' life among us...as one of us. But today is a is a day of celebration and rejoicing. Our Lord enters the Holy City and is greeted as a King.
Christ always wants us to be joyful , and wants us to find joy in everything that we do. That doesn't mean that we won't ever experience hard times and bad feelings. These are normal human emotions. But we must always strive for happiness and joy, even in the difficult phases of our lives. That might seem conflicting considering we cant always be happy. Happiness can be very fleeting. But let's consider finding the joy of Palm Sunday in our daily lives.
I once knew a man who was a hospital administrator. Mark had to constantly deal with people's problems; Doctors would come in and complain about old technology and obsolete equipment; the Chief of engineering would complain he needed more people; the chief of supply would complain about the vendors, and so on down the line. So all day long Mark dealt with problems...and the could be very depressing. But he had a "secret". Before one particular meeting, when he had to grapple with a disgruntled employee (whom he possibly had to fire) , he was thinking about the appropriate way to do it. How miserable he felt having to mix the employee's life with the needs of the medical center, and the compassion required by his Catholic faith. Just before the employee came in Mark pulled out his side desk where he had scotch-taped a picture of Christ knocking on the door. He always looked at it when times got tough. Now you my dear people, know that sometimes, you just don't want to see anyone, especially someone who is angry or annoyed with you. Well this administrator had to deal with that all the time, and the only way he could get through it was by reminding himself that it could be Christ knocking on the door...and that he had to deal with one of God's creations...and that made him hopeful .
Let's all take a lesson from that administrator and see Christ knocking on the door...and just as he rode into Jerusalem with the people spreading out palms before him, let us all do our best to spread palms before everyone we meet to remind them...and ourselves ...of our sweet Savior. Peace. ♥
As He came near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, "If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. Indeed the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up ramparts around you and surround you and hem you in on every side...because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God!
