CATHOLIC CHILDREN'S BIBLE STUDY

Prayer

It is not enough to simply go to Mass and follow the sacraments.  The Catholic Mass contains references from Scripture every Sunday throughout the year, and for those who attend Mass during the week know there are Scriptural selections every day.

In an ongoing effort to increase your knowledge, your understanding, and your faith, this page will alert you to the Scripture for each Sunday during the year.  It is okay if you don't totally understand what you are reading, ask your Mom and Dad to help you!

Ordinary time Year  B Sunday After Epiphany to Ash Wednesday

Did you know that during “Ordinary Time” we are Celebrating the Resurrection of the Lord?  In the grouping that follows the Christmas Season unto Lent, we focus upon the Lord’s preaching.  One caveat: do not be consumed with the superficial!  We all know the external journey of our Lord from His birth to His resurrection.  What we ought to be concerned with are the spiritual lessons, the values, the key points our Lord made during His ministry to lead us to understanding the intentions of His Father and Ours!

It is with the intention that we evolve our hearts and minds that you are urged to read the scripture daily and complete these selections by Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday scripture is not included here.

SCRIPTURE FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON

The waiting is over, we should think of Jesus’ Birth, not as an event 2000 years ago but as a present reality – Jesus presence in us anew – we see that God is no stranger to the human condition – Emmanuel – God is with us – Jesus – servant of God, the Prince of Peace whom Isaiah foretold – the Light, the Logos which is greater than human reason – Jesus reveals the Father (i.e. in the miracles, the transfiguration, the resurrection) Jesus reveals the Father who is gracious, comforting, and fulfills His promises to His children – we celebrate the gift of His son to us – His confirmation of His everlasting connection to us and Presence. THE SEASON OF ADVENT

This season of all in the liturgical year marks the fulfillment of God's Promise in the Old Testament to send a Saviour, A redeemer to His chosen people.  No doubt in Jesus' time, as it is today, people had their own ideas about the coming of the Messiah.  We learn during Jesus' ministry, that some had corrupted themselves to such an extent that they were content to find reasons to disbelieve in the power of Our Father, and so they rejected Jesus' teachings.

We are in year B of the Liturgical Years.  If you have a personal missal you should be able to find the masses for Sundays, and if you also possess the weekly missals, for the weekdays as well.  If you do not have a family Bible, now is a good time to visit the religious shop on Sundays between 10AM-1PM and ask them to order for you Bibles, missals, or anything else that can help you grow your family in Jesus.

Deliverance from Slavery to Sin

Jesus' good news, was a reiteration of God's promise - deliverance from slavery to corruption into the glory, light, and protection of being children of the most High God!  Jesus' birth and resurrection were the culmination of intended Divine Evolution for His children - an evolution they rejected in favor of believing in one another as their salvation.  The intended Divine Evolution - "All things are possible with God" are irrevocably and powerfully revealed and fulfilled through Jesus' birth and resurrection!  Obviously all of Jesus' miracles demonstrated this as well, but the greatest miracle of all was, is, and always will be Jesus himself!

Why Read the Bible During this Festive Season?

We have all witnessed on the news yearly now on the endless parade of uncivilized behavior by people degrading themselves for merchandise on indeed "black" Friday - the violence should tell you there is not even the remotest of threads to Jesus or the reason for the season!  The latter are just some of the signs of how far we have moved away from a reverence for life!  I urge parents and children to resolve that this become the year where we prepare ourselves to become renewed children of God by taking the time each Sunday during Advent to ponder the reasons for scriptural selections each day and how they relate to Jesus' birth.  By Christmas all who follow this simple sacrifice away from the television and the malls will experience something spiritually that cannot be bought or sold or forgotten!  God Bless You!
