DIOCESE OF METUCHEN NEWS

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM OUR BELOVED MOST REVEREND PAUL G BOOTKOSKI, D.D. Bishop of Metuchen

September 13, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Although the term "church" often brings to mind a vision of towering architecture and magnificent stained glass windows, we all know it is much, much more.  The term "church" is best understood as the living temple, God's people.

Together we are the "living stones" (1 Peter 2:5) that form the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Metuchen.  Our spiritual home, with Christ as the cornerstone, is actively working to advance the faith - proclaiming the message of Jesus, teaching His truth and extending His love to people of all ages.  It is fitting then that we have chosen the theme, "Because We Are Church", for the Bishop's Annual Appeal since the Diocesan ministries it supports embody the healing, teaching, and caring spirit of Christ.

     Because we are church...

          ● we promote the ideals of family life and human dignity, peace and reconciliation

          ● we are committed to providing our youth with the best opportunities for intellectual

           development and spiritual growth; and

          ● we have a special concern for those most in distress, especially those suffering from

hunger, neglect, unemployment, prejudice, and despair.

Now more than ever, our mission must continue if we are to meet the ever-growing needs of our human family.  Although these are challenging times, I am confident that together we can advance the work of the Church through  our faithful support, each according to his means.

I thank you for your generous response to the Bishop's Annual Appeal in the past, and invite you to prayerfully consider joining me in making a sacrificial gift again this year.

With my deepest gratitude, I remain

                                                                                Sincerely in the Lord

Most reverend Paul G. Bootkoski, D.D.

                                                                                Bishop of Metuchen
