SPONSORS AND GODPARENTS IN RCIA

Letters of Sponsorship

Please note that only registered ,actively practicing Catholics are entitled to receive letters of sponsorship.  These letters specifically attest to your being registered in our parish and that you receive the Sacraments regularly

Before you ask someone to be a Godparent or Sponsor , make sure you know their status in their parish.  If you are asked to be a sponsor and know that you have been attending Mass , you must make an appointment to speak with Father Bob, as our office staff cannot release to you a sponsorship certificate under those circumstances.  Call our office for an info sheet!

More on Being a Sponsor of Faith

A sponsor is required for anyone desiring to go through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.  The sponsor may not be your parent. Here is an opportunity for members of the Church to do evangelization on their own and bring new members to the Church.  By professing the living water one is soul bound to seek ways to encourage others to inquire about the Catholic faith.

The Links below represent Guides, they are not intended to be all inclusive please feel free to contact the RCIA team to discuss in greater depth the responsibilities and role that sponsors and Godparents play in the transformation of the Catechumenate to full membership in the Catholic Church.

You must be a member of the Catholic Church in Good Standing.  You will be required to accompany the Catechumenate to all celebrations and Rites from the First Sunday of Lent through Mystagogy.  BEING A SPONSOR OR GODPARENT IS A MINISTRY!  You should be able to supplement the work done by the RCIA team during the week to provide the spiritual continuity that is essential to a complete conversion and transformation to faith in the Catholic Church.
